World of Warcraft – Guild Types Found in Azeroth (1 of 5)
Written by Going Pro Gaming Posted on Jan 21, 2010, 6:12 pm
In this series of articles we will be outlining the various types of guilds that are found in the World of Warcraft Universe. While this series of articles is geared to World of Warcraft, the game I currently spend most of my time in, they are found in nearly all other MMO games as well.
The first type of guild that comes to mind is the Family or Chat Guild guild
These guilds can be basically thought of as a friend and family sort of affair or a glorified chat room. They seldom, if ever get together and do anything as a guild unit. This is not to say that they do not group together; rather that expecting to do anything in the way of mass raiding is most likely never going to happen. They usually have no scheduled guild events or reward systems.
The typical types of players joining these types of guilds are those who enjoy having a group to chat with but would rather pursue their own agenda. This type of guild appeals for the most part to those who are loners or prefer to solo most of the time.
There are usually very few rules to follow in a guild of this type and they may consist of simply have a good time, and treat others like you would have them treat you. These guilds usually suffer from member loss more than any other guild type, as most (though not all) players will join these types of guild when they are young or new to a server. They will remain until they gain some levels and gaming experience and discover a guild that is more suited their individual preferences.
On the bright side these types of guilds seem to hang around forever, there are always new players joining the game and younger characters of high-level players in other guilds.

Questup Review 2009
Written by Going Pro Gaming Posted on Jan 3, 2010, 6:32 am
Team iDemise have been around a long time. They first appeared in Counter Strike as a professional gaming team and dominated there for many years.
After taking their gaming expertise and knowledge gained in Counter Strike, the team applied their dedication and knowledge to dominating World of Warcraft.
They applied this knowledge not just in PvP as you might expect from a world class counter strike team, but also to creating super fast questing routes so that they could create all the class and race combos they required as quickly as possible.
As this information was gathered, Team iDemise started collecting it in an organised fashion, and a leveling guide was born. First, as a html and pdf file, and then as guides advanced they created an in-game leveling add on that could be used without alt tabbing out of WoW.
So how is the newest version of the Team iDemise leveling guide in 2009?
For starters the guide has taken on a fancy new name, “Questup”. I like the new name as it really describes what the guide does best – quest based leveling (which is the fastest way).
You won’t find any grinding in this guide which is great, as grinding is a terrible slow process and very boring.
One question I can’t answer about the guide is exactly how it works. Team iDemise obviously would rather keep this process a secret, but in essence this guide doesn’t operate like the other guides on the market.
Other guides are hand crafted – so their owners will sit down and map out the fastest route they personally have found in the game. These guides are only as good as their authors (and it depends on how much time and skill the author has).
Questup takes a different route. Basically, rather than being completely human edited, Questup tracks the fastest leveling routes from amongst the fastest levelers in the game.
Again, how Questup does this is a mystery, but in essence, the Team is getting dozens, scores, or perhaps even thousands of super fast leveling routes from WoW players and constructing the guide from that.
Awesome idea in my opinion, because while one owner might have a great route, there’s only so much time one person or team has to keep a guide up to date (and Blizzard change things often enough to keep guide owners very busy…).
Questup is very easy to use, its still an in-game guide like its older versions, and its a slim line, unobtrusive guide that keeps out of your way.
Questup also has a nice directional arrow that points the way for you, showing you where to go next and how far away your next objective is.
All in all, Team iDemise’s new guide, “Questup” is a great new tool that you should take advantage of if you have any low level toons or new characters you want to level up quickly.
Highly recommended!

Monitor Response Time Explained
Written by Going Pro Gaming Posted on Dec 15, 2009, 6:34 am
When shopping for a monitor for gaming or multimedia you will see manufactures brag about their response time. Although response rate or latency is extremely important when it comes to games, the manufactures derive this number in various ways.
Generally, manufactures report their fastest time, whether that is gray–to–gray or active black to inactive white and back. They may not disclose which they used to determine their typical time. The formal definition characterizes response time as the time it takes for an LCD pixel to change from completely active black to inactive white then back again. However, manufactures often report their gray–to–gray speed (or color to color). The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) will soon introduce specifications to standardize response time to make manufacturers’ numbers more comparable.
Nevertheless, despite the discrepancies over reported numbers, response time does matter. As recent as 2005, monitor manufacturers and gaming experts were recommending a response time of under 16ms to avoid blurring and ghosting. However, a year later we are seeing response times of less than 5ms, or more typically, less than 8ms. This in turn means that game manufacturers are going to utilize these new capabilities and create games that demand this faster response time. Who knows, maybe next year we may see Samsung reporting a response time of 2ms, it could happen.
For now, to view your games at their best, look for a monitor with the fastest time possible; it does matter. Keep in mind that display quality is also important, so look for a high contrast ratio and small dot pitch coupled with a powerful graphics card to give you the best view possible, until next year.

WoW Profession Guides – Blacksmithing 1-450
Written by Going Pro Gaming Posted on Dec 3, 2009, 6:07 pm
Raising Blacksmith Skill
You will want to equip yourself and your friends as your skill rises. If you keep your skill at 25 plus five times your level then you will always be able to make items you can equip at their minimum level. Outside of the items you make because you want to, or to fulfill the Blacksmith quests, there are a series of minimum-material items you can make to advance your skill, mostly consisting of stone, misc. items, and some low-material armor items.
Apprentice Blacksmithing Path
This is done mostly with stone, saving your copper and bronze bars until later except when you need to equip yourself or your friends or clients. Make Rough Sharpening Stones (turns green at 15 and grey at 55) until you reach 25 and learn Rough Grinding Stones. (Save and use those Sharpening Stones as a combat buff.) Make Rough Grinding Stones (turns green at 45 and grey at 85) until you reach skill 65, keeping them for use later in making other items. Make Coarse Sharpening Stones (green when learned at 65, grey at 80) until you reach 75 and are a Journeyman. Copper items useful as skill ups include Copper Bracers (2 copper bars, green at 20), Copper Chain Pants (4 copper bars, green at 50) and Copper Chain Belt (6 copper bars, green at 75).
Journeyman Blacksmithing Path
At 75 you learn Coarse Grinding Stone, which are green when learned. Make those until they turn grey at 100 and save them for making further items. Turn any tin and copper into bronze bars but save them. Make Silver Rods until they turn green at 105 (and sell them to Enchanters) then make Rough Bronze Leggings (with your saved bronze bars) until they turn green at 145 or even to grey at grey at 175.

Downloading Games Onto Your PSP
Written by Going Pro Gaming Posted on Dec 2, 2009, 11:53 am
Most PSP users know the vast amount of games and software that is available. However, every time you decide to buy a new game or software, you can be sure that soon you will be emptying your bank accounts just to keep up with the latest trends. That is why it is important to pay attention to all the How To manuals that talk about downloading games onto your PSP.
If you are interesting in downloading games then the most important accessory you need is a memory stick. This will help you to store the games once you have downloaded them from the Internet.
There are many online sites that offer free information on how to download games. It is a good idea to avoid these sites as they might contain spyware. In addition, these sites are chock full of advertisements which can be very irritating.
On the other hand, there are sites that charge a nominal membership fee which offer advice on how to downloading games onto your PSP. It is worthwhile investing in these sites as they usually offer technical support and you will also get access to these sites’ database where you can download games without worrying about spyware and viruses.
Once you have the game you want to download, use your memory stick for the download. Then you can easily transfer the file from your memory stick onto your PSP. In order to transfer files from a memory card to your PSP, you will have to invest in a USB data cable that connects your PC to your PSP. Then you can easily drag and drop games into your PSP game folder.
Downloading games to your PSP is not rocket science. It is, in fact, quite a simple process if you follow all the instructions. And, once you have downloaded the games, you can sit back and enjoy gaming and enter the virtual world without any worries.
