In a recent GDC 2010 interview with UGO, BioWare’s Dr. Ray Muzyka said of Warhammer Online, “Right now it’s [a] really profitable business unit within my group.” Muzyka went on to say they’ve actually seen more people come into the game since enacting the free-to-play model on the game’s earlier levels, and that he personally felt they were working.

In fact, by the sounds of it, Warhammer Online is due for some interesting announcements in the future. Another of Muzyka’s comments on the title was, “We have new content planned and all kinds of cool expansions for it.” We don’t know how much more clear cut a message can be than that. And hey, it’s good news! We’re looking forward to our playable Skaven and Lizardmen, Mythic and BioWare.

Inside MGC has posted a list of achievements for Microsoft’s upcoming Game Room for the Xbox 360. If you’re surprised to hear that a series of “interactive menus” has Achievements attached, you’re not alone — we didn’t really expect there to be so many points hooked into this thing. There are a full 1,000 achievement points to be had in 56 achievements, and they seem squeezed in there pretty tight — you’ll get points every three medals, and even some points for just spending time in the arcade (36 hours total).

In short, Microsoft really, really wants you to play in the Game Room a lot. There’s less than a week left until it releases on March 24, so we’ll see then if an enticement like this pays off.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has been pretty well-received by critics and fans alike, but is that positive buzz translating into sales? With more than 25 million people already invested in the competition, you may not have expected DICE’s shooter to take retailers by storm. According to EA’s internal figures, however, that hasn’t been a problem; they’re reporting over 2.3 million copies of Bad Company 2 sold in the roughly two weeks since the game launched.

Not only that, but — as seems to be the trend these days — they also threw out a handful of absurd statistics gathered from the game’s servers. EA’s stats show over 2.9 million hours of multiplayer have been racked up during the last 24 hours alone, and that players have earned a total of more than 81 billion points, unlocking over 43 million pieces of equipment in the process. The publisher tallied a peak-concurrent-users figure of around 230, 000 — a number that’s caused EA’s multiplayer servers to buckle on more than one occasion.

DICE’s Karl Magnus Troedsson chimed in to address the game’s on-again, off-again server stability issues. “In the first 48 hours we had such a tremendous rush to multiplayer gameplay that our servers experienced overwhelming demand. This is a testament to the massive response players have had worldwide for the extraordinary action experienced in the Battlefield sandbox,” explained the game’s executive producer. “DICE and EA have brought more servers online. We now have enough capacity to handle all BFBC2 connections seamlessly and we continue to monitor online play daily.”

We all love to keep up with what’s been going on in our favourite MMOs, whether the news is delivered by dedicated news sites and blogs or live radio shows and pre-recorded podcasts. There’s certainly no shortage of fan-run podcasts and blogs in the EVE Online community but occasionally one will stand out from the crowd. Originally started up in 2007, the “PODDED” podcast had limited success with a run of only 11 episodes. After a relaunch in 2009, hosts Dillon Arklight and War Childe seemed to find their feet and have since seen their listener base grow. Posted on an irregular schedule, the PODDED podcast explores everything that’s happened in the world of EVE since the last episode, from news and devblogs to coverage of major nullsec wars.

To celebrate the one year anniversary of their relaunch, Dillon Arklight and War Childe are giving away one year’s worth of EVE game time! To enter, you’ll need to record an original piece of EVE-related audio comedy. It must be no longer than 3 minutes and can be any form of comedy. Some suggested ideas include an EVE parody song, reading an original EVE short story, creating a fake EVE advert or just doing some general comedic gags. If you think you’ve got what it takes to produce a funny EVE-related audio clip of three minutes or less, get your submission in by April 28th for a chance to win.
